Hot Springs National Park is known for its bathhouses which soothing waters are used to relax in while your there for rich and poor people alike.

Climate

Winter-Variable temperatures may range from below freezing to the 60's with some humidity be prepared for cold weather.

Spring-Mild with humidity light jacket is recommended.

Summer-Hot and very humid in summer, wear comfortable clothing.

Fall-Mild and humid a light jacket is recommended.


History

Hot Springs became United States territory in 1803 with the Louisiana Purchase.

Hot Spring became a National Park on April 20, 1832.

Congress helped Hot Springs become a National Park.

For over 200 years people have been coming to the spring (nicknamed the American Spa) to enjoy the hot springs.


Facts

Hot Springs National Park ranger James Cary was the first national park service ranger to be killed in the line of duty. He was shot by bootleggers while patrolling West Mountain on March 12, 1927.

The hot spring water at Hot Springs National Park becomes heated at a depth of approximately one mile before beginning the journey back to the surface through fault.

The Public Health Service operated a venereal disease clinic in the government free bathhouse (1922-1948) in Hot Springs National Park Arkansas. it was one of the first facilities in the United States to use Pelicillin. In 1948 the clinic transferred to the nearby camp Garraday Transient camp.

Hot Springs National Park is 40 years older than Yellowstone National Park.

Hot Springs Arkansas, was the premier baseball spring training site from the 1880's-1940's. The Chicago White Stockings, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates Boston Red Sox and other came to sooth their aching muscles at the many bathhouses using Hot Springs National Park water.

Drive through the parks scenic mountain roads.

You can go on a hike and see wildflowers, rock formations, and beautiful scenery.


Things to do

While there you could stroll by the eight historic bathhouses and the grand promenade, located within historic landmark district.

Experience the thermic water.

Hike some of the park's 26 miles of trails.

Picnic on the mountains or by Gulpha Creek.

Drive scenic mountain roads--Hot springs and north mountain drives west mountain drive.

Camp at Gulpha george campground.
