On Isle Royale their is a lot of things to see and to do on the island. It was created by a glacier that melted and permanently separated Isle Royale from the mainland of Michigan.

Isle Royale is in Michigan an island on Lake Superior one of the great lakes.

The size of the park is 132,018 acres and is 850square miles. The distance from Oskaloosa to Isle Royale national park is 639.78 miles then take the ferry to the island.

Park Hours

Isle Royale National Park closes on November 1 and opens back up on April 16 due to harsh winters. The visiters center is open daily from 8am to 6pm in April to November.

Climate

Isle Royales climate is like Iowa's climate, hot in the summer and cold in the winterIn the winter the temperature is from 10 to 40 degrees and the precipitation is 0.9 to 1.8 inches. In the spring the temperature is from 45 to 62 degrees and the precipitation is 2.2 to 3.1 inches. In the summer the temperature is from 60 to 68 degrees and the precipitation is 2.5 to 3.4 inches. In the fall the temperature is from 20 to 52 degrees and the precipitation is 1.3 to 2.1 inches.

History

Isle Royale National Park became a national park on March 3, 1931. President Herbert Hoover helped make Isle Royale a national park.The island Isle Royale National Park is on created 1.2 billion years ago by a glacier when the island got permantly seperated from the mainland of Michigan.

Facts

Although Yellowstone National Park receives more visitors than Isle Royale National Park, the island's per acre backcountry use is the highest of all the National Parks in the U.S.A. On February 17, 1981 Isle Royale was designed as a bioshere reserve, it was designed to protect the animals and their ecosystems. Isle Royale National Park's waters contain the most productive native fishery and genetically diverse trout population in Lake Superior.

Things To See

While you are on Isle Royale you can see all the kinds of animals there is at Isle Royale National Park. On Isle Royale there is a lot of historic lighthouses. When you are hiking on Isle Royale you can see all kinds of wildflowers.

Things To Do
